He was originally looking at old Foresters, but with his budget came to the conclusion that this ‘06 SRX, which was newer, much more comfortable, had more features, more space, more seats, and lower miles was a better buy. It’s an odd looking thing, but I don’t hate it. V6, AWD, great red over tan color combo, huge sunroof. A bit of wear but in great shape overall.

I have an 09 which we are keeping for when my son starts driving. I think 07 is when the interior was upgraded, but it is a great driving car. Gas mileage isn’t great (ours is AWD v6) but we can get 23 reliably on the highway. Ours is the same color and love the huge sunroof.

We just replaced it with an Ecoboost Flex as the main family hauler, and the extra 100 hp of the Flex is noticeable, but it doesn’t handle or steer anything like the SRX.

I would pick that over an old Forester 10 out of 10 times.

I drove one of these for a couple of years. For what I paid, it had a great sound system, was super comfy, had great climate control, and was reasonably fast. Plus it had a third row, which came in handy.

I got rid of it because I had the RWD version and live in WI.  And it was starting to show the timing chain stretch that is notorious on the 3.6.  Keep the oil clean and change it often!

It’s rare to see those in such good condition.

He was looking at Flexs, but for under $5k the ones you get are base models with high miles and usually trashed.

By contrast, we bought a new Flex reasonably well-loaded back in ‘09 and it was a wonderful car.

Yeah lots of them are trashed.

I got lucky - GM replaced the timing chain free of charge since mine was less than 10 yrs old and (just) under 100,000 miles. My Caddy dealer (where I would get it serviced) didn’t tell me about the TSB for  it - a Chevy dealer did (and did the job) when we were looking at the new Traverse.

The original CTS wagon.

Love the power, multiple sunroofs, and space, and very surprised at the excellent  build quality.

Tell your brother to get the sunroof lubed every few years so the motor won’t be stressed.

Funny, the reason I got our SRX is I had a 2010 CTS wagon and loved the way it drov e, but when our third child came along and we needed more space I wanted something that drove as well and happened upon a nice used SRX.

I just had flashbacks to pulling the engine out of one of these. Would not recommend as I'm pretty sure I had nightmares about it for a month after the fact.

I’m not convinced they actually sold any of these in any color other than red.

Duly noted, will plan on leaving engine inside car.

Odd, I rarely see them in red. Usually silver, black, or white.

They are all red around here.

Hey he also came to the conclusion that inflated used Subaru pricing isn’t worth it. That’s how I ended up with an AWD BMW that was 3 years newer, and had 15,000 less miles than any WRX for the same price. Will the cost even out in the long run? I doubt it, as turbo  Subaru’s aren’t especially cheap to maintain, or fuel either. Plus my e90 is much more comfortable, although I sure the WRX would have been more fun to drive.

I wouldn’t have gone for the SRX but I respect dodging the bullet on crazy Subaru prices.

I hounded my Cadillac dealer to fix the chain. It was burning several quarts of oil. It was even still covered under warranty!  Wouldn't do it, said that was normal.  It’s that kind of shit that’s holding Cadillac back. Other luxury brands have excellent dealer service. Cadillac service is worse than Chevy. Ugh.

Yeah, it’s sad that the Chevy dealer has WAY better service- and I had all the oil changes, diff servicing, and some non-warranty work done at the Cadillac dealer so they had ample opportunity to bring it up (and I raised the diesel-like sound on startup several times).

Yeah we all reached that conclusion quite quickly. Hell, even my Saabaru was cheaper than a normal WRX because it dodged the Subaru price bubble.

As an Australian let me say that I’m not sure what’s going on but it seems like a cool and decently equipped wagon.

Seriously no idea
